But first…tariffs (word of the year already). Trump again sent leaders reeling, markets tumbling and heads shaking with the imposition of a 25% tariff on imported goods from the country’s North American neighbors on March 4, making the U.S. effective tariff rate its highest since 1943. Prime Minister Trudeau called the tariffs “dumb” and immediately retaliated with Canada’s own, and once again, President Sheinbaum came across as the adult in the room.
