Welcome to the December edition of The Mexpat Notebook.

The presents have been opened, the feasts feasted and (in my weary household) the viruses mostly vanquished. As we linger between the old year and the new, caught at the bottom of the exhale, I hope you take the time to enjoy some slow reading. I share a few of my recent finds below, and encourage you to do the same in the comments section.

And on this last Sunday of 2024, I’d like to express my gratitude to you—for reading and sharing my work and sending me your feedback. I especially thank those of you who have upgraded to a paid subscription (learn more here).

In case you missed any of The Mexpatriate in this busy holiday season, here is a December recap:

  • The Mexpat Interview: The Mexico Political Economist - What’s on the horizon for Mexico’s economy with Trump 2.0?

  • Notes on a counter-reformation - A deep dive on judicial (and other) constitutional reforms

  • Breaking bad…or good? - Guadalupe-Reyes-Trump

I am looking forward to broadening my coverage of the national conversation in Mexico in 2025, with your support. Expect more interviews, more long-form reporting and as always, more context to help you navigate the country’s political and cultural landscape.

Como México, no hay dos.
